how to make a divx disc to play on a dvd player which is divx enabled?

i have recently purchased a dvd player which is divx enabled i have tried to put about 5 .avi files on to a dvd disc as a data disc and it burns fine however when i go to play them in my dvd player the files come up and say wrong format content. i thought that avi videos were divx. how can i make a disc to play various movies so it is compatable with my dvd player????

I have faced this problem but only difference is that mine one has played many avi files but there have been instances where the avi will not play. There is only sound and i had to convert it into another format to make it viewable.
You need some converter to convert avi into divx. Not all avi are encoded with divx. Converting is a bit tricky thing to do. Go to codec guide for more info.
You can also convert avi into svcd or vcd format as these are easily recognised by the player.
