How to make a moist, tender yellow layer cake from scratch.?

Hello,
I'm interested in baking cakes from scratch, but I have a fear of over beating the ingredients. Can someone give me a recipe for a good moist yellow cake WHICH INCLUDES the beating times for ALL the ingredients as I add them? I have a KitchenAid Epicurian 475 watt mixer that I'd like to use, but I'm afraid I'll over beat and have a tough cake. Can anyone help? If so, thanks in advance and have a great day!
