how to make ios 4.3 backups work with 4.2.1?

hey, well i sucessfully downgraded my ipod firmware to 4.2.1 but itunes says the firmware is to old to work with this backup please made this ipod a new one then update it then restore it from a back up, how do i force it to work with ios 4.2.1 do i need to edit something?
