How to optimize BitTorrent for its best performance?

I have BitTorrent version 7.7.3. my download speed is only reaching upto 20kb/s
please help me to change its settings to make download speed faster
I need more information please!
Im from India and i have BSNL broadband
My download speed is 50kb/s but im only getting 20!
I want 2 make all my internet speed for downloading.
How can i use my download speed to the fullest to download in bit torrent?

1. Stop uploads during download by bittorrent. Just right click on download file, select bandwitch set upload limit 1 kb.
2. Dont give seed option after download.
3. After download delete (.torrent) file.
4. Stop any background online updation.

The most important thing is opening the firewall port.
If your connection is uninhibited, you'll rise in the queues, which in turn makes your downloads faster.

I also recommend switching to uTorrent, btw.
