How to resolve distortion issues regarding a Samsung camcorder and a Mac computer?

I have a Samsung HMX-H100NM camcorder and a MacBook Pro. After multiple school projects and a couple home videos, I became sick of the distorted videos. I shot the videos with these two settings: 1) standard definition and 2) fine. The playback on the camcorder is fine, but on the computer, they are too wide.
When I import the videos to iMovie, they are too wide. If I try to import the videos into iMovie using Large vs Original size (or was it the other way around??), then the videos are too narrow.

I tried the additional settings:
HD 1080 aspect ratio normal, but when I move the camera when shooting, the videos have horizontal blur marks (sorry if that doesn't make sense)
HD 720 aspect ratio extremely distorted (way too wide)
SD aspect ratio distorted (wider than normal)

Changing from normal to fine to super fine does not seem to make a difference.

Does this have to do with the settings, the SD card, or ..? Please help - I got this camcorder about half a year ago, hoping to make better videos for my numerous school projects, and this issue has become quite annoying.

Many thanks.
