How to set pin code as unlock screen for Verizon Lg Ally?

I've went to the settings and set my pin code. I've also adjusted the setting so that I am SUPPOSED to enter it every time my phone needs to be turned back on from sleep. This works for the pattern setting, but for the pin setting it just does what it normally did before I changed anything. How can I fix this?
