A Wired News writer married to a drummer runs down how they soundproofed their apartment to appease the neighbors. Thick carpets, solid doors, drop ceilings and a caulk-like soundproofing compound called Green Glue all helped the situation:
To create a drop or false ceiling, just attach furring channels to your existing ceiling and hang a bunch of sheetrock panels from them. The dead air space between the original ceiling and the new one creates a sound-trapping chamber.
How do you deal with keeping noise in (or out) in your apartment? Let us know in the comments.
