how to unlock or remove sim lock?

my phone says sim lock and it won't do anything you can't even check the IMEI number it can only do emergency call.
can any one help?
its a vodafone 225 series.
 
Take out your battery and slip the sim card out from the top and then put it back in and then put the number in and that dosent work then calll your sevice provider and ask them how to unlock your phone you may need to take it up there
