How to use Telus CMDA phone features without network?

I have a LG Chocolate Flip 8600 with Telus (Canada). I am currently traveling in Europe, so my phone (which is CDMA) doesn't work here. I am wondering if it's still possible to use other features on the phone such as alarm clock when there is no service. Right now, when I turn on my phone, it will stay at the "searching for service" screen forever. Is there some setting I could change?

Since you have no signal then your phone can't set the time from the network like it normally would. I'm not familiar with your phone model but does it have a menu item so that you can manually set the time? The 'searching for service' screen can be disabled by turning on 'airplane mode', if you have that in the menu.
