How to win in court for a traffic violation?

I was recently cited with a ticket for passing a bus with it's "yellow flashing lights" on. I do not feel that I deserved the ticket in that (as I was driving toward the bus in the opposite direction) the bus driver had it's yellow flashing lights on while moving, in which case I proceeded to slow down. The stop sign was not pulled out when I saw the bus. At this point, I continued driving when the driver turned the yellow flashing lights on. By this time, I was advancing on the bus and do not feel that I had adequate time to stop. I made the effort to slow down as much as possible and when I was beside the bus, the driver then turned the red flashing lights and stop sign on. The bus driver got my license number and turned me in. I am going to plead not guilty. I have a pretty good driving record, am a good college educated person and would never think of passing a bus intentionally to gain a few minutes of time. I'm sure I will get a couple typical responses, saying I am a bad person and I deserve a ticket. Blah blah; however, if there is anyone who has some experience as a lawyer, could you please tell me what to say in court so I can win the case. Or at least attempt to, considering I feel I do not deserve a ticket. If I was wealthy and could dish out $300 I would just pay it. But I am supporting my parents, one of which is ill, so I do not have that cash. The analogy I would use is that, I was driving through a yellow light, that just happened to turn red when I was right under it. That is how I feel, people do it everyday, some time it is just unavoidable. Thank you for the help.
