For once I at least partially agree with JoSH. Except the gain issue. He or she doe not have a clue what the gain is. It's not a volume adjustment. It level matches the input of your amplifier to the output voltage of the source unit. So, if you have a high output source, you turn the gain down, if you have a low output source, you turn the gain up .... to match the voltage. Not just wherever you think it should be. I actually use an O-scope for setting gains. So rather than guess at where the clipping is occurring, I can see it on my scope.
