Hypothetically, can a soccer coach substitute FOR a player?

In a professional game, can a coach play in the game if, let's say, all the other subs can't for some reason (sudden cramps!) and a player gets sent off for injury? Can the coach step in (assuming he's wearing all the proper equipment and stuff)?
