I ahyve a question about torrent downloaders?

I have used utorrent and bit torrent and whenever I use either one of them, my internet gets disconnected. I have adjusted the number of connections and peers, but it still disconnects. But when I check out my modem all the lights are still on, as if the internet is connected. What can be causing this and what can I do to solve the problem.
When I want to download a torrent, I click on it, and it starts to download. After a few minutes, 1-2 minutes tops, my internet disconnects.

As you have written it, it seems impossible. Please list the steps taken in detail and the result of taking each of those steps.
