i am going to hike the appalachian trail next spring/summer/fall?

Okay so heres the situation. its always been my dream ever since i took a day hike and heard that this thing runs from maine to georgia. Anyway, I'm in college for environmental engineering and next summer instead of taking any summer courses ill get out of school in May and leave for my hike.. I may not make it back in time for the fall semester but if i dont its all good. This experience is once in a lifetime and would show perserverance on a job application.. Right now to this day i have $0. I am about to get a job with panera bread YUMMMY good bread and save up.. How much money will i need? I figure ill need a plane ticket from harrisburg to maine... then georgia to harrisburg... then ill need equipment what brands woudl be best? tent survival supplies flint.. I also plan on getting a few drops but only at sites where there isnt any food being sold.. I AM considereing brining a gun because i will be starting this hike along.. if i meet some people cool but if not i gotta survive out in the wilderness

You should probably get at least one other person to go with you. I know that braving the wild all alone sounds awesome and heroic and may even look good on a resume, but dead people dont have resumes. If at all possible, get someone with some experience in that area.
