I am looking for a recipe; A German brownie with some type of spice?!?

I had a babysitter when I was a young girl that would make these types of brownies. She she they were a German tradition and I remember her saying there was a specific ingredient that she would have to go to a European style shop to find. I remember it as chocolaty (but not too much) not very sweet (then again I was a kid with a sweet tooth!) and maybe some cinnamon or something like that.
Help!

All-purpose flour-1/2 cup, sifted
Baking powder1 Teaspoon
Salt1/4 Teaspoon
Allspice1/4 Teaspoon
Nutmeg1/4 Teaspoon
Cinnamon1/2 Teaspoon
Margarine1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
Brown sugar1 Cup (16 tbs)
Egg1
Vanilla1/2 Teaspoon

Directions
MAKING
1)In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt and spices together.
2)In a pan, melt margarine on low heat and add sugar. Let it cool.
3)Add egg, flour mixture and vanilla and mix.
4)Take a greased and floured 8-inch square pan and put the batter.
5)Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
6)Take out and cut into squares.

SERVING
7)Serve the spiced brownies instantly.
