I am selling my car and I still drive it everyday, and i noticed that other people who sell their car put a rag around their plate, or take it off all together just for the pictures that would be going up on like cars.com or craigslist. is it unsafe to have mine showing, can i keep them on?

keep them on, just cover them with something or blur them with photoshop

Generally as a rule of thumb most people never show their licence plate while taking pictures of their car for selling. Its just to stop fraud, As someone could copy your licence plate, and stick it on a similar car etc. Its just for safety purposes.
