...same memory? will this work? i have a brand new 1 gig pny chip that i never used was for the wrong newer slots now i got a new mobo and i just picked up 4g of dual channel memory pc5300 same brand as the older one optima pny so can i use all 3 chips or will i loose dual channel or performance or both?? i figured if they where all the same company and kind they would work and id get 5gb i dont know the current ideal amount of memory for multitasking and gaming is im running windows7 x64bit and amd quad core asus mobo
well i currenntly have a max of 16gb but who??? needs all that memory today but servers besides the fact only like 3 companys make 4g chips i.e 1x4096 and they cost hundreds thats why i got 2gb sticks. Even if they made a 16gb stick next month i doubt any mobo currently out except server mobos would even see it or work with it however id like to idealy get 4x4g of pc9600

You want to keep all your chips the same size. its best to use all your slots to = the max your sytem can support.

if u have 4 slots for ram u are way better off with the same amount of ram in each slot for the best performance technically yes ull get 5 but not the best way to go also if u decide to stay with 2 dont put them next to each other u need to skip a slot usually they are colored and ud want to put one in each one of the same color this also applies if u use the 3rd one say u had 2 red slots and 2 blue ud want a 2gb stick in one blue or one red and the other in the other slot fo the same color(channel) (dim) whatever way u wanna remember but the 2 words just given are the proper words and then the 3rd one in one of the slots of the other color/dim/channel
