I can talk endlessly to anyone, but when it comes to humor, I'm stumped. Why is this?

Whether I'm meeting someone new (i.e., stranger), or talking to a long time friend, I can talk endlessly about anything, but I can't seem to get in touch with my sense of humor. Everything I talk about is serious or so called "business talk". I can talk endlessly about anything scholarly or academic as well. Those are my favorite things to talk about. My problem erupts when someone else walks up that my friend knows and starts talking to my friend. My friend and that person will start talking and laughing at so much stuff, and I feel left out at that point. It is rare that I can crack a good joke, or even feel the need to. The only person I can laugh with and enjoy laughing with is my girlfriend.... no one else. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. And please, this is an educated question in which I ask for educated answers. Please, no sarcastic or otherwise offensive or unhelpful answers. Thank you.

Sometimes a sense of humor has to be developed. Look to what makes you happy and makes you laugh when you are with your girlfriend. When you have some contemplating time, try to associate that kind of humor with business, see if you can correlate the two. You will eventually Develop a sense of humor if you can find the right recipe.
