I cannot watch DivX movies in Firefox. Can someone help?

I've seen this question asked a few times and not one of them has received a helpful answer. I hope this is different, as I know a few people with the same problem and wish to find a solution for us.

My problem is that every time I load a movie or video with a DivX format my Firefox instantly closes due to a crash. I cannot watch videos online with it and I cannot even watch a DivX movie I have saved on my hard drive if I open it with firefox.

Firefox version: 3.6
DivX version: 7
Operating system: Windows XP Home SP2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
RAM: 3.2GB

For some reason DivX is crashing my browser and I want to fix it. If you need any more information please say so I will be willing to provide anything more you need in additional info.

Divx causes Firefox to stop responding.

I have the same problem. And no fix yet though I have been looking for two days.
I changed to MS Essentials and Firefox 3.6 and upgraded Divx Player all over the weekend and up until then I was not having this exact problem although Firefox has been disappointing lately. I went back to 3.5 to see if the upgrade was causing it but know luck.
