It seems that you have installed the Beta version of IE8.

To get rid of IE8 Beta 1 forcibly but not fully, go to:
Start Menu/My Computer/C: Drive/Programs/Right click Internet Explorer 8.../Delete

Or,
Start Menu/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/One click Internet Explorer 8.../Remove/Follow as prompted

After it is uninstallled, you must try Firefox.

Only you can prevent it, stay away from viruses.

Get Firefox - http://getfirefox.com

Dump IE - it's a joke compared to Firefox.

You have to get the old version.

Try firefox. You can install it in a snap (it's nothing like the 10 minutes it takes for IE to install.)

And you won't have to remove IE. They can co-exist fine. If you don't like Firefox, it's very easy to uninstall.

Did you add a bunch of addins from Google or Yahoo? Did you disable the phishing test which scans each page before it's displayed for known phishing pages? I don't use any addins and turn off the phishing test and my IE is just as fast as Firefox and supports more websites.

Turn off the phishing filter. Go to the Tools menu (the new one, for IE7), and select phishing filter. Turn it off. I did a week after I first d/l the browser and it resumed normal speed.
