(((this is kind of long but the explanation is NEEDED in order to answer the question accurately. I'm trying to avoid answers like "try putting gas in it", or the answerer telling me to do something i've already done etc... Ironically, I'm trying for maximum Yahoo Answers efficiency)))
I'm sure there are a few people out there who have seen my posts about this bike.. It's been a trip.
Here's the deal. I have a 69 suzuki T125 (2-stroke 2 cyl - has an ALTERNATOR, not a MAGNETO. needs a battery to run.)
This bike hasn't been started since 1973!!!
I installed a new wiring harness because the old one had holes in wires and was grounding out.
After that, i was getting a very small spark to ONE of the coils, so i figured the coils were bad and replaced them only to find i had the same problem.
After doing a check with a volt meter, i found there was power draining from somewhere but wasn't sure where. Basically, when the key was on, it was draining power by .01 volts per second or faster.
I pulled the alternator off and found that the wires in it were chewed up too and figured it was grounding out. Someone in 73 did a crap job replacing this stuff (which is why it didn't run. They did a horrible alignment job and the magnet scraped the crap out of the alternator and ruined both rendering the bike useless.
I replaced those items, plugged it all back in, charged the battery, cranked it, and after a while it fired up!!!!
Here's the thing though.
it STILL DRAWS POWER!!! When i turn the key, it still loses power at about the same rate as what i said before.
It won't sit at idle when it does crank, i have to keep the idle kind of high on the throttle to keep it running, and if i hit the brakes it stalls out until i let it off, or kills the bike completely.. if i turn the headlight on it does the same. the tail light doesn't SEEM to effect it as a running light. but the brake light filament kills it...
Why would this be??????
If i find an answer to that, then i'm sure it will run a lot more smoothly.
Aside from that, a good carb cleaning may fix the rest..
Anyone have any ideas as to why the brake light, headlight, or turn signals would KILL the motor????
-----
as for staters - i don't think it's that. i replaced the entire alternator and flywheel assembly. it MAY be that one of them is bad, but i'm toing to explore other options first before i go tear the whole thing back apart again to get the stater out..
p.s. THANKS

How do you test a stator? Is there a way? aside from it not running right? lol
