...and how do i fix it cheap? Pretty much the guy told me that my engine airflow was too hot or something. i need to get it fixed fast but mechanics are really expensive and i work as a bagger at a grocery store so its kinda hard to pay for it. any ideas or help?

EGR is an acronym for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Basically it is a valve that sits on top or around your intake manifold. I once new what it's main purpose was, but that was 20+ years ago. If I remember correctly it takes some of the exhaust out of the cylinder after it fires and remixes it with clean air and fuel to be fired again.

One sign this is bad is that your exhaust may smell like sour eggs.

As far as the repair cost.....IDK.

that's the egr valve it recirculates the unburned exhaust fumes from the exhaust chamber and runs them back through the engine again to re-burn them, when its not working right though it will cause one to fail a smog test, they cost on average about 40-100 bucks depending on what type car you drive, call a parts store and tell them what type car you have and they can give you a price on one, good luck.
