Ah right, well that is reasonable.

I just hate the attitude some people have that if you do anything except back down and mollify an aggressor you have done something wrong.

I'm not saying people have the right to pound someone into oblivion over a tiny slight. I just hate the idea that the only right way to deal with the aggressor is to accommodate them, to give up more of the world for them to be an A hole in peace.

Thanks for that mate, you've pretty much nailed how i felt/feel about it. By being reasonable and polite with them i was offering them a way out without them losing face (not that i cared i just would have preffered a peacefull resolution to the confrontation) yet they chose to be abusive. and then tried to attack me. Had i not defended myself it would have been me laid out in my own piss, not them, so i'll always choose to defend myself in the same situation as i feel ive every right to stand up for myself. your right, more people should do this.

It makes me wonder what would have happened had i backed down.. would i have been stabbed.. would they have got a fairly light sentence having undoubtably used the drugs they were on to excuse their behaviour and try win sympathy? If it even got as far as the courts as i doubt the police would have caught them anyway.

From yours and other replies ive had i feel even more justified than i did in the first place but its still a sorry state of affairs when a man cant walk to the shop for milk without running into this kind of situation.

That's true fella yeah, but i think when you've decided to stand your ground you've accepted it could go either way. At least that's how i feel, and would have accepted it had i lost just as readily.

I agree 100%. i'm not the type who would start a fight over something trivial, but would defend myself/family/friends , my home or if i was being mugged etc. its just not happening. I work hard for a living, i don't break the law, and don't see why i should have to cowtow to scum like them.
