I hav a "Yamaha Natural Sound Home Theater System AVR-S80" could anyone tell me?

what the little black square at the front of the amplifier is, it says "optical!." could anyone also tell me why there is a yellow, as well as a red and a white input on the front of the amplifier as well? Thanks :)
