A man travels 7 miles south, then 3 miles east….and then 3 miles north. How far from starting point? How do I solve this?!?!?

If you make a diagram, you will see that he has traveled 4 miles south and 3 miles east. This forms a right triangle with legs 3 and 4. The remaining side is 5 (pythagorean theorem).

First, draw out a diagram of this so you understand it graphically. He goes 7 miles south, so you have a length that extends south that's 7 units long, then he goes east 3, then 3 north. The 3 north just brings his 7 miles back to 4. So in reality, he's only traveling 4 miles south, and 3 miles east. Seeing this makes a right triangle...plug in the values into the Pythagorean TheoremLa² + b² = c²3² + 4² = c²25 = c²c=5

this man travel 7 miles down in plane y then he go 3 miles right on plane x then 3 miles up on the plane y.so in plane x, he travels 3 miles in plane y, 7-3=4 miles3^4+4^2= 9+16=25^1/25miles. p.s.: a picture can explain you very well
