010965 how can I get it active in India I was using this Nokia GSM phone in US and when I returned to India , the phone does not work. The phone book, games, etc still works, but I cannot make /receive calls and it does not recognise any SIM (be it Airtel, Hutch , spice). When I took it to a local cell phone technician. The expert immediately checked its IMEI Code and said that the cell phone does not begin with IMEI of 35 and so it has to be trashed. Can anyone tell me why IMEI of 0109 does not work in India ? I checked in several other cell phone experts who could unlock my cell phone. But received the same response. Should I really TRASH my cell phone..

you can not use it in India.
you should go to your nearer nokia care centre.
tell them to unlock your cell phone as you have to go to India.
Bring all the puschasing documents with you about your cell phone.
They will unlock your cellphone without taking any fee to do that.
After that.. you can use your cellphone everywhere you want.

your phone needs to be unlocked to recognize any other SIM card carriers. For example, if your Nokia was bought under AT&T, then you need it to be "unlocked" so other companies that uses SIM cards such as T-Mobile can work.

I don't think it has to do anything with the IMEI...I think your Nokia phone may have been locked with some USA network. So when you insert Indian network, it is unable to recognize other networks. To unlcok the locked network, you can get free unlock codes for basic/old mobile models from Unlock-free.com or from Simpleunlocking.com where they provide unlocking service for various mobile models.
