i have an '04 dodge neon sxt. the a.c. starting makin a ticking noise coming...

...from the vent. What is it? I had just pulled into mcdonalds parking lot, and when i got back to my car, the air conditioning was making a ticking noise. The higher i turned up the a.c. the louder and faster the noise got. It also does the same thing when i use the fan.
 
The compressor is on it's way out ($1000). My sympathies go to you for owning a Neon.
