i have an HP laptop with a cd and dvd rom drive but it wont read any of my disks?

i am tryign to burn something but it wont even show me the options for a blank dvd! the orange light lights up and it makes the vroom vroom sound but theres no response?

do i need to downlaod the driver or what?
when i put a cd it doenst work either i have windows vista,
when i go 2 my computer cd/dvd doesnt even come up

sounds like its something to do with the driver.. make sure its the correct one
