I have an invention? do i need to patent the recipe? or the process?

I have an invention that uses mostly natural and or organic ingredients,and is used in a non conventional way.Do i need to patent the recipe? or the process of using these ingredients for my specific idea? also,do i need a chemist to write down the formula?/recipe? and have that patented too?
