...King movie (regular not 3-D/BlueRay).? I originally saw this movie on a family member's VHS version in the 90's, and it seems that one scene was altered and another part deleted altogether. Please tell me if I am right about the following: the scene where Simba is running back to his homeland to take back his kingdom (after living with Timon and Pumba, then reuniting with Nala) used to show a close up, slow motion of Simba running and the scene (and accompanying song) used to be alot longer than it is now-now they only show Simba's legs hitting the sand as he runs in the foreground and simultanously shows him making progress in the background-with no showing him running close up also. Also, at the end scene, where the new cub of Simba and Nala is being presented, didn't the 90's version have Mufasa's ghost smiling down in the sunlight in approval? The version I bought doesn't have this at all.
Arcticfox, I bought it brand new at Best Buy about two months ago. It DOES show him running in the background with the foreground showing his legs, but what's missing is the additional showing of his full body running in slow motion close-up. And the part about Mufasa at the end is completely missing. Unfortunatley it may be too late to take it back. You say the MOST recent Blu-ray has everything it should?

Quite possibly. I remember when they released "Aladdin" lyrics in the opening number were changed from "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" to "where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense."

Since much of the animation is digitally captured and they often have extra/unused footage, it wouldn't surprise me if they did change it for aesthetic reasons, whatever those may be.

In terms of the scene at the end with Mufasa's ghost; I don't remember the movie having Mufasa's ghost smiling at the end of The Lion King. However, is there any chance that you're confusing this scene with the sequel, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride? As Mufasa's ghost appears during the ceremony for Kiara (Simba's daughter), smiling clearly at her.

In terms of the other scene, you may very well be right about the scene where Simba is running back to his homeland. Back when The Lion King was released on IMAX in 2002, the animators made various changes:

- re-animation of Mufasa's appearance in the clouds (initially the clouds collapsed in on themselves as Simba chased after his father's ghost, in the IMAX version, the clouds simply disappeared!)
- re-animation of the dust that flies up when Simba plops down on the cliff (which initially was accused of spelling SEX, then defended as spelling SFX)
- re-animation of the waterfalls in the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" sequence (Intially blurry, made clearer)
- The crocodiles in the "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" sequence were re-animated.

So you might be right about the Simba scene, though I'm wondering if it re-appears as the version you described in The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata.
