Monte Carlo SS w/ 5.3L V8 AutoTrans? Here's what happened. There was a recently refilled pothole that the local idiots they call a road crew worked on. Instead of repairing the pothole properly, they filled it in such a way that they left a 2+ inch ledge on the far side. I hit it going 30MPH and my car actually stalled. Why would this happen? My car has never stalled for any other reason other than the time I ran out of gas pulling into a service station. It only has 47,000 miles and runs great. The other symptom that I had was it would make a rattle sound similar to that of a lawn mower engine that was about to stall out while cutting wet grass. But it only made this sound when I was accelerating between 20 and 30 MPH. I shut the car off when I got to the store and since then, I have not heard this rattle.

I drove it to work today and all seems fine. No wobble of the steering wheel or shaking in the front end. I was only able to test it up to 60MPH.

Any ideas on the sounds that I heard or what caused it to stall? (other than the pothole, of course).
