I just got a PS3 and when i watch the blu ray, it doesn't take up the whole...

...screen. How do I fix this? I'm new to all this, so I am not sure where to begin. I see commercials and the DVD takes up the whole screen, but on mine I get the black lines on top and bottom. help. is it something in setting?
I do have an hdtv. if iget the hdmi cable, will that fix it
Its a 42 inch JVC TV

Black bars on the top and bottom are perfectly normal. Your movie is in W I D E S C R E E N, and either your settings or your TV isn't, so you dont get the effect. In the commercials, the movie is either 4:3 aspect ratio(how wide a TV is) or their TV is 16:9 aspect ratio. Check in the settings and if that doesn't work, then you TV is FULLSCREEN.

If you have a wide screen tv
Than go into the menu go to video setup and turn the ratio to wide
Get a HDMI cord it makes the picture so much better
