I Need Advice on Switching From Virgin Mobile to TMobile and the Samsung Vibrant?

I would like to switch my service provider from Virgin Mobile to TMobile and still keep the same number, is that possible to do? Has anyone actually done it?

Also, I'm considering purchasing the Samsung Vibrant. What are your opinions of this phone? Can you recommend a better one?
