Hi! We used to do cake walks all the time in TX when we lived out there. We've done a couple here. They're a lot of fun for everyone. For a cake for a cakewalk, you don't really need to be fancy. You can just make a basic cake, put it on cardboard(remember it's to be given away) or you can bake it in an aluminum pan that you won't want back. Just decorate it with fall colors, using frosting tubes from the store. One lady always made a pound cake decorated with fresh strawberries(it was always a big hit).....on lady made an almond joy cake, here's the recipe:
Almond Joy Cake
1 (18 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
2 1/2 cups white sugar
25 large marshmallows
1 (14 ounce) package flaked coconut
1/2 cup butter
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (3 ounce) package sliced almonds
Mix cake and bake as directed for one 9x13 pan.
In a saucepan combine 1/2 can of the evaporated milk, and 1 1/2 cups of the sugar.
Bring mixture to a rapid boil.
Quickly remove from the heat and add marshmallows.
Stir until melted and then add coconut.
Pour this mixture over the baked cake.
In a saucepan combine the remaining sugar (1 cup) and remaining evaporated milk.
Bring to a boil.
Remove from heat and add butter and chocolate chips.
Stir until melted and add almonds.
Pour over the top of the cake.
Chill for at least 2 hours.
Best if made a day prior to serving.
She always made this almond joy cake in an aluminum pan, and it was always a big favorite. Another good thing about this cake, you don't need to decorate it, it's pretty enough to eat. Everyone wanted to win it. I hope this helped!!
Good luck, and have fun!
