I want you guys to read the background for this so you'll know how important it is to me, but I'll post the real question first so you can answer if you don't have time.

I'm looking for a really great Lord of the Rings (book not movie) gift idea for my dad, any suggestions?

The Fellowship of the Ring is one of the first books I can ever really remember reading. I say reading lightly, my dad actually started reading it to me when I was probably 9 or 10. We would read a couple of chapters a night probably 2 or 3 nights a week. We read until we finished the entire series. I'm an English major now and I want a gift that's going to show my dad what a huge impact he's had on my life with his story telling. I want something really special and I'm not afraid to spend money on this. Please help me out guys, I thought about a box set but I need it to be a really nice one if that's what I'm going to go with. Any suggestions on specific sets or another gift altogether would really be appreciated. 10 points to best answer and thans for your help.

You could have a look through this site. It has everything from LOTR swords, to pipes, to collectables to games.

Hope this helps at least a little bit. I know how important it is to get a great gift for parents. Try writing a heartfelt poem to go with the gift!! x

That's sweet. I suggest buying an Old World style gorgeous map of Middle Earth and having it framed/buying it framed. That'd look great on any living room/library wall and it's something he'll see every day.

The stupid official Tolkien shop site isn't working right now, so you'll have to Google search yourself, but best of luck!

@Kahlan: that's where I was just searching and none of the merchandise is coming up/loading. Maybe it's just me.

get him a really nice pipe... even if he doesnt smoke it represents the lotr and can serve as a trophy/ symbol of the characters he so vividly described
