I've just had nothing to write lately which really kills me but last night I came up with a character. I can visualise him perfectly but because i have no idea what his background, the story he belongs to is about i can't even give him in a name.
Normally i come up with story ideas when i'm obsessed with something, though for that reason they never last. The last novel i wrote, consisted of no obsessions, it just came from inside me.
Therefore I have a crazy belief that now is the moment I should come up with an idea before i become obsessed with anything else. The problem is all i have is this character. No name, no background, no story, and character traits that are ever so slowly coming to me.
I watched Star Wars III last night with my friend and i suppose I'm getting a few characteristics out of Anakin because he's always been one of my favourite characters of all time. This is just as confusing for me because i have never wrote a sci-fi and have never imagined doing so. I normally take a history period and add fantasy or create my own world.

That said i do have this gut feeling that an idea's stirring up inside me, but the character i am visualising just seems to be EPIC so how can I develop him more and is it bad to have only a character, because loads of people say you have to have a "mighty theme" first.

Well, in writing you start off with a single character and let them find their feet in your mind. What i do is to dream up a character and leave them for awhile to fester quietly at the back of my mind. Then I ask the character questions like, "Whats your name?" and "Where do you live?" Slowly but surely the character begins to find her voice and pours out her story to me. All I have to do is write it down!
