travel to birthplace? I came to the US as a political asylee. I received my permanent resident card through political asylum and eventually became a naturalized US citizen. When I was going through the interview for my citizenship, I was told that I was not allowed to travel to my country of birth which I left due to fear. As of now, things settled down there and I would like to visit my family that I have not seen in years. The officer handling my case told me that even with a green card I was not allowed to travel back to my birthplace because my status was still considered as an asylee with permanent residency. I didn't realize to ask him if I would be OK now, as a naturalized US citizen, to travel back there. So that is my question, can I travel back to my country of birth after receiving citizenship through political asylum and green card?
