...find the drivers on acer? I have acer aspire 3690 with cd/rw dvd-rom the device manager says its up-to-date, but it won't read anything. I tried going to acer for the drivers, but they don't have any for the dvd-rom, and I can't even find a brand name on it, let alone a model number. any help

Find your model and download all the drivers for your model of laptop, drivers compatible with windows 7.
Download them to a USB pen drive.

I would to the format and fresh install again, then install all the intel drivers like the chip-set and hard drive controller, then install all the other drivers.
(It's up to you, if you just did the fresh install you may get away with it)

1. connect to the internet and then find the dvd in device manager and select update driver.

2. find out what dvd drive it is and search for drivers for it rather than rely on ms ones.

3. delete it from device manager, that should force it to find new drivers.

How did you install win 7 without a dvd drive ?
