I sold my car overseas and the dmv keeps sending me registration fees after

i have signed it over to the buyer? Before i sold my car to Europe from California i signed the proper forms. then after the dmv mailed me a form saying i owe them registration fees. i went back to the dmv signed the form again with the buyers address. now again for the third time they are harrasing me to pay them registration fees. what am i to do? the car is long gone in another country.
 
Did you make sure that the person who purchased your car in fact got it registered in his own name?
