I updated my iPhone to iOS 6.0.1 and now I have to update my Mac's OS X

from 5.8 to 6.8? I updated my iPhone to iOS 6.0.1 and now I can't sync it to my iTunes because I need iTunes 7 but I can't download iTunes 7 because I need OS X 10.6 and I only have OS X 10.5.8

Is there any way I can fix this without paying for new software? Can I downgrade my iPhone to something I can use with my current iTunes or is there a safe site where I can download OS X 6 for free?
