I use a tmobile PREPAID card, if I buy an unlocked lg gw525, will it work

when using my sim card? is there any process when i get my phone? for example, do i have to activate it? will tmobile let me activate a phone that isnt tmobile? how will i do it? and how much will it cost?
 
if the phone is unlocked it means it can be used for all mobile networks that use a sim card, but if since the phone you want is a smartphone and you are using a prepaid plan, the internet might not work. Just pop your sim card into your new phone and you can start talking and texting, even picture messaging but no web.
