I used to live on my own (I'm 19), but I live with my dad now to help him out, since he works all the time. We have a dog (Labrador Retriever), and I really want to get a kitten, as my own; that I can raise. The thing is, my father is a dog person (hunting dogs all the way lol) and doesnt really like cats to much. He knows I'm a responsible person. I just dont know how to go about asking/convicing him to let me get a cat. Any advice?

Try asking for a kitten around your birthday or the holiday season. Just make sure that the one that you choose is going to be a real people person. That should help to sway your dad's opinion.

Perhaps consider getting a pedigree cat because they are usually socialized from day one making them a better pet than, say ones that were raised without much human contact.

just get it anyways. im sure once he see's it he wont say no and or cant say no. but u should get a lil dog. im not to much into cats lol but thats just me

umm the best thing to do is to sit down with ur Dad and express to him how much you want a kitten and how responsible you are and that you will take great care of the animal.. and if he doesnt really like cats maybe you can keep the kitty in ur own room until you move to ur own place again....? duno...but the best thing is to be open with ur Dad and just talk to him about it..good luck!

Talk about it all the time non stop with no break EX: My friends kitten... Or something like that might work!

Sell him on a cat's mousing abilities. He sounds like he'll need a practical approach. You can't really tell him he won't even know it's there because cats like to run the household. Will the cat be safe around the dog?
