He knows how to cook hamburgers, spaghetti, eggs and other simple things. He is 16 and I want him to learn a little more about cooking before he leaves home. He is not really interested in doing this, so I am looking for somethings that might interest an otherwise uninterested cook. Any suggestions?

Chille con carne or maybe a curry. Anything he likes to eat is more likely to be of interest to him than something he doesnt

Take it from a guy who was once in his shoes -- learning to cook is the least important thing on his mind right now.

If you've got him making the basics he'll be just fine, but trust me when I say that when he's on his own he'll survive on his preferred diet.

a cake or pie.. something he loves to eat that is a bit challenging

show him how to make some of his favorite foods, and then show him sum more advance stuff. but he's a teen, hes not gunna want to cook his own food from scratch. Teens are more microwave dinner kind of people. but just try cooking sum new things that u think he would like, and then show him how to make it. :]

Stop cooking for him? That's assuming you already are. But at the same time, leave him with easy-to-cook meals from a cook book, online, etc.

I tought my little sister to cook (shes 13 and the same kind of situation)

Home made pizza is good, he will learn to make the dough and pizza is yummy :) muffins are easy, but they require measuring and stuff, which he could use later in life to make other things. Get hime to prepare a family meal. Let him do it all on his own. Give him a list of foods to choose from, and leave him to it :)

foods that are good for this are;

pizza (home crust)
Steak (or chicken) with potatoes and side veggies
a roast
pancakes(breakfast)
Cakes
Muffins
ribs (again with sides)
stuffed peppers
Shepherds pie

tons of others, i hope this helps :)
good for you to want to teach him these things, cooking is a lost art
