I want to buy an Alfa Romeo 156..but cant decide whether to get?

I have a 156 with the manual box. I chose it as the selespeed had reliability issues in the past.

Try to find the 2.0 Litre version as you get lower fuel consumption and cheaper insurance without sacrificing much in performance. There is a 2.5 liter V6 version but it is considerably heavier. There is less than 5 mph difference between them. (135 against 140)

If you come across a 1.8 Litre version I suggest you leave it alone. They were made for the home market where Italian Tax Laws gives a financial saving if under 1.8 Litres. Engine parts are hard to source outside of Italy.

That said they are great cars with excellent handling. The 2.0 will eat a BMW320i for breakfast.

Don't get the selespeed that gearbox has had a bad reputation in the past. Your much better off driving an alfa with a manual box! Much better drive.
