I want to convert DVD to a MP4 video, it there any suggestion or help? thanks?

i have a dvd, and i want to convert it to mp4 on my laptop. i download a dvd ripper program, it is free, but does not support dvd to mp4. i do not know how to find a good especially free dvd ripper program. is there anyone can help?
