I want to get an android phone. can I?

So I have a typical blackberry and its on contract until may 2014

My parents have said they will buy me an android phone but as pay as you go.
I'm wondering if I can put my contract sim card into the new phone.
Will I still be able to use the internet/have free calls and texts. I'm only changing the phone
