I would like know how to build my own simple synth?

i just recently learned how to circuit bend, but would like to learn how to build a synth. they usually look like home made guitar pedals. im color blind and really terrible at reading electrical schmatics<sp-terrible at spelling as well>. anyway to help a noise brother out?
