ideas/tips on starting over and repairing a broken relationship?

My ex and I are talking about getting back together....Maybe. But I would just like some tips and ideas on how to rebuild our relationship such as things we can do or should talk about. Would some of the same steps apply if you were trying to repair a relationship with a friend?
