...right-handed hitter, as their 2B? I think it could be a real steal. At this point of the off-season, with the market completely deflated, what could he really get? Although he's not Orlando Hudson, he's much better than other's out there, like Mark Grudzielanek, Nomar Garciaparra, Ray Durham or Adam Kennedy.

Of course, I mean at the right price, which may be 2 or 3 million? No one would have ever projected the market would turn out like this, with lots of good players out on the market almost at the beginning of Spring Training. For what it's worth though, Cabrera's used to playing for competitors. Whether that be the Red Sox, Angels or White Sox. Would he really want to go back to the losing days of the Expos? Right now, the A's are the only other team pursuing him, who he'll probably end up with, but at this point, they look like a .500 point at best. The Mets give Cabrerra a much better chance to win. Obviously, there's concern of whether he could be a good defensive 2B, which he probably could. But if not, the worst case scenario is he's their right-handed hitter off the bench.

I don't think Cabrera is a very good defensive 2B. I base this off the fact that he forced Juan Uribe to become a second baseman just so he could play SS. He is a good hitter though.

Yes, it's worth for them to sign him, he puts up consistent numbers every year.

I don't disagree with your suggestion, but I don't think it's going to happen. Cabrera certainly would love to play for a contender, but the Mets aren't going to go after a 2nd baseman unless they can somehow unload Luis Castillo's albatross of a contract. And from everything I've read, they've been trying. I think Mets fans just have to hope Castillo shows up to spring training in a lot better of shape than last year, and that both of his knees are sound. A lot of wishful thinking, but I think that's the reality. Go Mets!

No. I think the Mets have to stick with Luis Castillo at this point (they still owe him about $20 million) and just hope that he sort of resembles the form of a major league baseball player. Should that not happen by May, you call back up Armando Reyes, and try to work a midseason deal for a low price middle infielder. I don't think the Mets will go for broke on 2nd base at the start of the season. Their going to let it play out with Castillo.

Not gonna happen UNLESS you can get rid of Luis Castillo..... and I don't see that happening.
