If i buy a dvd burner does it also read dvd disks?

my computer recently stopped reading disks, if i buy a dvd burner will it read a disk on my computer so i can watch the movie, and download files from a dvd disk or somthing? or does it just burn dvd's and not read them?
what is a good dvd burner/reader so i can watch movies on my computer (like ones i bought) and burn them off itunes so i can store them if my comp crashes
 
A DVD burner should be able to read and write DVD's AND CD's.
 
Yup, DVD burners do it all!

Yes it will read DVDs and you can install games too but some games wont work with it ie. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.clear sky. I have both a reader and a writer just for that reason
